VVV DR1: The First Data Release of the Milky Way Bulge and Southern Plane from the Near-Infrared ESO Public Survey VISTA Variables in the Vı́a Láctea
نویسنده
چکیده
Context. The ESO Public Survey VISTA Variables in the Vı́a Láctea (VVV) started in 2010. VVV targets 562 sq. deg in the Galactic bulge and an adjacent plane region and is expected to run for ∼ 5 years. Aims. In this paper we describe the progress of the survey observations in the first observing season, the observing strategy and quality of the data

VISTA Variables in the Via Lactea (VVV): The public ESO near-IR variability survey of the Milky Way
We describe the public ESO near-IR variability survey (VVV) scanning the Milky Way bulge and an adjacent section of the mid-plane where star formation activity is high. The survey will take 1929 hours of observations with the 4-metre VISTA telescope during five years (2010 − 2014), covering ∼ 109 point sources across an area of 520 deg2, including 33 known globular clusters and ∼350 open cluste...
متن کاملSelection constraints on high redshift quasar searches in the VISTA kilo-degree infrared galaxy survey
The European Southern Observatory’s (ESO) Visible and Infrared Survey Telescope for Astronomy (VISTA) is a 4-m class survey telescope for wide-field nearinfrared imaging. VISTA is currently running a suite of six public surveys, which will shortly deliver their first Europe wide public data releases to ESO. The VISTA Kilo-degree Infrared Galaxy Survey (VIKING) forms a natural intermediate betwe...
متن کاملStructure and evolution of the inner Milky Way galaxy results from ISOGAL
The DENIS/ISOGAL near/mid-IR survey of the Milky Way for the first time probes stellar populations in the innermost obscured regions of our galaxy. Ages, metallicities and extinction-corrected luminosities are derived for these stars individually. An old metal-rich population dominates in the inner galactic Bulge, but there are also indications for the presence of a younger population. The inne...
متن کاملHi-GAL, the Herschel infrared Galactic Plane Survey: photometric maps and compact source catalogues - First data release for the inner Milky Way: +68° ≥ l ≥ −70°
Aims. We present the first public release of high-quality data products (DR1) from Hi-GAL, the Herschel infrared Galactic Plane Survey. Hi-GAL is the keystone of a suite of continuum Galactic plane surveys from the near-IR to the radio and covers five wavebands at 70, 160, 250, 350 and 500 μm, encompassing the peak of the spectral energy distribution of cold dust for 8 <∼ T <∼ 50 K. This first ...
متن کاملAGB variables in Baade’s windows
In this work, a sample of luminous M-type giants in the Baade’s Windows towards the inner Galactic Bulge is investigated in the near-infrared. The ISOGAL survey at 7 and 15μm has given information concerning the mass-loss rates of these stars and their variability characteristics have been extracted from the MACHO database. Most are known to be semi-regular variables (SRVs). Here we discuss how...
